Wear Behavior of a Ni/Co Bilayer Coating by Physical Vapor Deposition on AISI 1045 Steel

Coatings by physical vapor deposition (PVD) have become highly relevant due to their wide range of applications and the rapid rate coating formation. In this work, AISI steel 1045 was coated with two layers, Ni Co using PVD technique. Each deposited a thickness 1 ?m. After applying coatings, post-treatment applied in an AC plasma reactor boron nitride blank Ar atmosphere at pressure 3 Torr, 0.3 A, 460 V 4, 8, 12h. The characterized optical emission spectroscopy (OES) 200-1100 nm. main species observed OES were Ar+, N2, N2+, B+. coatings on posttreatment scanning electron microscopy (SEM) X-ray diffraction (XRD). Also, subjected tribological tests analyze wear resistance, Pin-on-Disk present remarkably better properties than uncoated steel, being sample post-treated 4h that showed lower rate.
